My Take on the Edgar San Diego Collection

Holiday 2011’s recurring theme was Filipiniana.  In Edgar San Diego’s collection he incorporated Filipiniana into a modern, cosmopolitan look.  The result is a classy casual that bespeaks of comfort and ease while retaining high-street style.  This ensemble for example is a wonderful piece for day functions or an office piece.  The pencil cut skirt and tank top are very comfy pieces to wear and the sheer ¾ length jacket cinched with a wide belt gives it an edgier and eye-catching appeal.  Paired with sandals, peep toes, or ankle boots this look is ready to wow.  The hat the model is wearing can also be carried on to the street wear version by doffing on a Fedora in white or black.  Plonk on some eyeshades a la Posh Spice and carry an oversized black bag et voila the look is complete.  If conservatively sexy means anything, this is it.

I absolutely love, love, love the details on the shawl/scarf of this gown.  The embroidery detail is the focal point of the entire ensemble.  It is very conservative yet very classy.  The muted colours the designer used- the champagne and neutral tones- are a perfect backdrop to the shawl/scarf.    The pieces can also be used individually- either the dress alone or the shawl/scarf piece with another outfit.  It’s quite versatile.  This outfit would be perfect for formal affairs, especially ones which are ‘international’ because it will showcase the talent of our local couture designers.  Red carpet affairs such as the Cannes Film Festival or the Oscars would be somewhere I would wear this beautiful dress to.  Pair it off with sexy sandals in gold and a mother-of-pearl clutch to complement the outfit.  For jewelry, I would definitely showcase our local deep-sea pearls in black.  This would be a definite on the best-dressed list!

This dress reminds me of a black swan.  It’s definitely something for a more mature, sophisticated woman.  The deep V front gives a glimpse of the cleavage.  However, the sleeves of the dress are what cleverly draw the eyes to the garment.  The beautiful, bold, black embroidery draws the eyes to the sleeves instantly.  It also makes the dress conservative looking despite the deep V neckline.  Again, Edgar San Diego puts mother-of-pearl, wide belt to bring out the simplicity of the cut.  The black material certainly brings out both the beauty in the embroidery of the sleeves as well as the belt.  Pair this dress with strappy golden high heels and a small black clutch in either black or neutral colour or the look is complete.  This is another number to be worn for formal or red carpet affairs.  It is a show stopper for sure.

This dress reminds me of the Japanese/Chinese ethnic influences in Filipino society.  The usage of black and beige brings out the simple lines of the dress.  The peek of black lace from the extra high slit in the front is very sexy, peek-a-booish.  Suggestive but not showing.  The mother of pearl, extra-wide belt with the black background is perfect for this dress and is the focal point.  The lace bolero gives the entire ensemble a conservative approach.  I personally prefer it without the bolero.  Black high-heels and a traditionally woven clutch in black would be perfect for this outfit.  I would wear my hair down as I am opting to wear it sans the bolero.  A simple necklace, dangling earrings and some bangles would complete the look.  I would definitely wear this to a formal function or even a wedding.  If the latter, then the bolero would be perfect to wear inside a church.  A definitely stunning dress by Edgar San Diego.

Madame Butterfly!  This is the first thought that crossed my mind upon seeing this gorgeous dress.  The beadwork on the super, long sleeves are extremely detailed and simplistically beautiful.  The mother of pearl belt accentuating the full length skirt gives the outfit a break from what would have been an otherwise very plain, white dress.  The belt does not detract from the sleeves at all.  And no other accent is needed to showcase those utterly stunning sleeves!  The simplicity of the dress is the perfect backdrop for the very detailed beadwork.  Again, strappy sandals in silver or pale green or yellow would be the perfect accompaniment to this ensemble.  Drop earrings are a must and an up-do so that the sleeves take center-stage.  Again, this is a perfect red carpet dress.
