This is the first time that President Benigno Aquino III led the 113th Independence Day celebration in Kawit, Cavite last June 12, 2011. Before the president delivered his independence speech, and to commemorate the historical event, he first went to Emilio Aguinaldo tombs and lay down a garland on it. While doing this, the national anthem was sung. In this connection, Kawit, Cavite Mayor Reynaldo Aguinaldo was there for the oath taking; while Imus Bishop Luis Antonio Tagle was the one who led the invocation. On the other hand, Cavite Governor Juanito Victor Remulla delivered his welcome remarks prior to the reading of passage of the Philippine Declaration of Independence by Prime Minister Cesar Virata.
Specifically, the transcript of President Aquino’s speech is related to the fact on how the Filipinos today could possibly be freed from poverty and corruption. He also emphasized on the last administration’s huge amount of debt which just passed on to his new administration which until now he is still doing his best to resolve. Not to mention the various anomalies that the last administration had been done to the Philippine government. In the contrary, the president also mentioned the achievements he has been doing for the past months in order to clean and to put into proper places the different departments in the government without any tarnish of corruption practices under his governance. Moreover, the president gave emphasis on the various government projects that his new administration has done to the Filipino people that include the Housing Project in Bocaue, Bulacan for low-salary AFP and PNP members. As well as the significant reduction of rice importation of the government this year which is only 860,000 metric tons compared to the 2.38 million metric tons under the Arroyo administration. Aside from that, he also claimed the fact that the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao will already join in the next national election simultaneously with the other regions in the country. What else, according to him, he also signed the Government-Owned and-Controlled Corporation Governance Act of 2011; as to his effort in the pocket open skies policy.
With all these in mind, I could say that President Benigno Aquino III is true enough to his promises of freeing the Filipino people from corruption practices by the various political servants in the government that really caused tremendous increase of poverty rate in most places of the country. I also believe in his sincerity in leading the nation in to the path where the Filipino people could live a decent and high quality of living. I could really sense that he really desires all these things to happen among us. But, the question why still more ordinary Filipino citizens today are suffering extreme poverty and unemployment? Yes, I know, that he could not do reform in just a snap of his fingers. It will take longer time before he could possibly prove especially to the poor Filipino families about the development and improvements on his advocacy against poverty and unemployment.
Most of the time, it is very pleasant to hear all these achievements… implementations and promises of the president. However, it is very hard to absorb and understand by millions of poor Filipino households why despite all these developments, the president still could not do something or control the significant increase of all basic commodities in the local market. that always leads to the increase of transportation fare. There are more ordinary employees in the country that only suffice their monthly compensation for the daily food and transportation allowances of their children in college ; that even they tried to sent their children to state universities in the country that only they can afford, still they are burdened by the series of significant price hike in different LPG products, as well as the succeeding increase of gasoline and transportation fare that are always associated with the remarkable increase of all basic commodities in the local market. In the contrary, the salary of the ordinary employee is not enough to cover all these expenses; so I wonder; how could we really live a decent life?
As a result, there are many Filipinos who applied for any kind of job just to be able to support their families financially. And, as you can see, those who are living decently here in the Philippines are those families who have one or more members in the household who are working in the foreign land. First thing and foremost, the president should provide Filipino people a sustainable way of living through having a power to control of our economy. As an ordinary Filipino citizen, I will be greatly grateful to the Aquino government if the president could really control this particular aspect of his administration.
