My Favorite Edgar Allan Creations: Philippine Fashion Week 2011

Edgar Allan’s Holiday 2011 collection has a lot of parallels with John Galliano’s designs.  This piece for instance shows vibrancy with the orange coloured material and the zebra printed material on the over-lay.  The “frou frou” ruffle is okay for the runway or for a styled look for a photo-spread.  However, to translate the look to something wearable, the ruffle piece would have to be taken off.  I still have a pair of Prada pony hair zebra mules from way back when which I think would go fantastically with this outfit!  Chunky 80’s style jewelry in green and royal blue to off-set the orange would complement the ensemble.  This dress is a scene stealer with the bold colour and zebra print used.  It screams of “Attitude”.

My two favorite colours in one outfit- pink and black- gives elegance to this dress by Edgar Allan.   The deep V-neckline gives it a very sexy allure despite the Victorianesque pink, silk overlay on the dress.  The black and white striped overskirt with the white balls gives it a playful and whimsical touch.  Again, for it to be worn off the runway, I would forgo the pink silk overlay.  Wearing that (keeping it exactly like the runway version) I fear would put me on the worst-dressed category.  Otherwise the dress itself (sans pink stuff) gives a strong statement.  Native Filipino jewelry would complement this ensemble.  I am thinking large, baby pink south sea pearls set in platinum to make up for getting rid of the pink overlay skirt.

This has got to be my absolute favorite from Edgar Allan’s Holiday 2011 collection.  It is sheer opulence.  I absolutely adore the stole.  The pink silk swathed around the bodice and gathers as a train on the back is just so dreamy, princess-like.  If I were to get married again, I would opt for this gown.  I can envision diamonds and a tiara complementing the dress.  The way the fabric of the dress hugs the body is so femininely sultry that it will raise temperatures without showing much skin.  The finishing touches would be my Christian Laboutin Bibi Pumps because it is shimmery and my Gucci Broadway jeweled clutch.  This is a very well put-together look which will generate a grand entrance whatever the event it is worn to.

This is the most simplest of all the gowns in the Edgar Allan’s Holiday 2011 Collection.  The beauty of this piece is in the fluidity of the cut and the beautiful blue hue of the material.  It is what one calls “elegantly simple”.  For a formal evening wear, I opt to wear lacy gloves in place of the plain, black ones featured on the runway model.  Also, instead of the coiled, black necklace I would use my God Save McQueen scarf to give the outfit a head-turning accent.  The hat-like confection sitting atop the model’s head is also something that will not do for off-runway wear.  Instead I would wear drop earrings in either diamonds or Swarovski.  What to say?  The gown is stunning in its simplicity.

The first thing which pops into my mind upon seeing this dress is “Cruella Deville goes colour crazy”.  It would take a very statuesque and very confident woman to pull this look off the runway.  It certainly is eye catching with the bold, black and white polka dots and tangerine orange skirt with black polka dots on the front.  Do away with the crazy head piece if you do not feel like being an eye-catching, news grabbing “Royal”.  The outfit certainly does not need much to garner any more attention as it is loud as is.  A simple pair of black high heels and matching black handbag is all that this outfit needs.  The most important and necessary accessory is confidence.  Confidence after all will be the determinant if one will make it to the best dressed list or the worst dressed list.  That is a fine line indeed with this ensemble.
