Philippine Theater: Viva Atlantis Production's Mounts Tarzan the Musical!

My friend Em invited me to watch Viva Atlantis Production's Tarzan last weekend.  Too bad I was not able to download the songs of the play a week earlier like I always do, so I was not too familiar with the songs, which was a pity since there were some really good songs in there!  I could've enjoyed the show more if I knew the songs!  However, even then, the cast was really strong and they really performed well!  I especially enjoyed seeing Eugene Villaluz performing after not seeing him after a long time!!  Rachelle Anne Go was a fantastic singer - well, everyone was - but she was just so cute with the way she acted as well!  Dan Domenech, who played, Tarzan, moved really well and his body was, well, Tarzan-esque - with nice abs and boy, a great voice to go with that body!

You can bring the family by the way!  There were so many families there watching it!

Meralco customers face higher June bills

It's terrible how Meralco is abusing us! This is one monopoly that has to be dismantled - but sadly, in our elitist society, it's never going to happen - which makes me really sad. I mean, the Lopezes are kissing P-Noy's ass so I doubt if he's going to lift a finger about this. Seriously, paying an electric bill of 18K to 24K a month is just really heavy!! And now they're asking for another increase!!! Paikli ng paikli ang kumot P-Noy - it's not fun anymore. I've lived in HK and I use the aircon the same way I use it here and my electric bill during summer there only reached 3K pesos at most. This is really highway robbery! Dito, I'm sure those paying 3K can't even use their aircons!

High cost of education in the Philippines

When we were paying for Laura's books and school supplies, I asked the lady in the counter how much we had to pay for them, and she said, "P10,000 po" - and I jokingly said, "Ahhh, Grade 2 lang po siya, wala pa po siya sa medical school" and the poor lady just gave me a wry smile because I'm sure I wasn't the first person to make some kind of comment to her during the enrollment period. "Yung sa isa naman po, magkano lahat". She said "P7,000 po". WTF, I wanted to quip, "Ahhh nursery lang po yun siya, hindi pa po sya engineering studentl!" Here I am, dreaming of sending Laura and Dylan to study in Central St. Martins or Parsons or HKU during their college days, and I'm aghast already about how much their books cost!!

Philippines decries outburst vs Azkals in HK

It's a pity that racism had to rear its ugly head again during this sports event.  The FIFA should really impose stricter sanctions on the national football leagues of countries who cannot control their fans.  Just warn them pointblank that if their fans boo the national anthem of their opponent or harass the fans of their opponent that their team will be disqualified from any Asian-level or Olympic level qualification events.  Sore losers and their fans who resort to racially insulting their opponents have no place in football, or any other sport for that matter.  The FIFA should make that clear to everyone.

PH ranks among most gay-friendly in the world

Being a gay man who lives in the Philippines, I can attest to the truth of this article which says that around 73% of the people here said that people should accept homosexuality.  Growing up gay here was pretty ok, although just like other kids, I receive the same taunts and 'names' but nothing that other heterosexual kids also received.  In other words - patas-patas din naman.  Of course, I never let anyone step all over me by insulting me about my being 'soft'.  Nobody has any right anyway to look down at me condescendingly - we're all human beings and you shit the same way I shit.  It's just that I may be 'gay-er' than you.

52nd Royal Brunei Armed Forces Anniversary

I was delighted to attend the 52nd Royal Brunei Armed Forces Anniversary last night at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, thanks to the invitation of our friend, Effendi Maidin.  I was able to meet some new friends from Vietnam and Brunei as well as some Filipino friends.  We had a great time taking pictures during the event.
