Technical and Vocational Education: A Way out of Poverty

My Lola Med used to have a vocational school in Ozamiz City called the Huliganga Vocational school.  This was in the 50s up to the 80s.  It's just too bad that none of her children were able to maintain the school.  The school used to offer dressmaking classes, typing and cosmetology courses.  Except for typing, I think even now, if you know how to sew a dress or fix someone's hair - you will NEVER go hungry.

I do believe that if poor people will just acquire technical or vocational skills, they may be able to find a way out of their poverty.  They may even be useful when they go abroad where skilled people are paid by the hour!  Our new mananahi now is a TESDA graduate and she told us she learned the skill for free!  So it's good that the government is really reaching out to our urban poor and help those who help themselves.

Now, what to do with those who are willfully tamad!
