Manila: An Eternal Rememberance

I just received a phone call coming from a Filipino friend from Dubai, Saudi Arabia for four long years without communication there she was, my long time friend Elijah still sounds the same talking just like singing. She said she’s going home to bring a good man from Saudi Arabia who happened to be one of the executive staff in her job in Saudi whose name was Alem. He wanted to see our beautiful country for the first time.
She asked me to be their tour guide, and why not? I hurriedly replied without thinking.  Good thing she told me not you worry about the expenses I’ll take care of that and much more, she said. Whew! What a big relief. She still knew I’m a poor guy and it’s alright.  And after a few more conversation the deal is done. They will be here and it’s so soon.
After the conversation, I began to think how my friend looks like and where would I bring the Arabian guy? I couldn’t think about anything because I’m so excited to see my friend and curiously the guy from another country. It’s good to know that somebody after a long time still trust you.
Finally there they are in Cebu and after one week they will be visiting Manila. When they came here I know where I am going to take them since I have already planned about the usual places where I have been in Manila. I should know since I studied in Polytechnic University of the Philippines in Sta.mesa.
Early in the morning I will take them to Luneta Park to feel the warm Sunrise while viewing the bayside and sit on stones, this remind me of my childhood memory where we use to eat on bayside. We are going to stroll along the places probably show them the history about the shrine of Jose, Rizal our National Hero would probably caught an interest of a visitors curiosity about the man.  And this has been the focal attraction of all visitors when they’re here in manila, probably take pictures of Alem so he take it home or put it on his facebook account.
After that I am going to show them the Chinese garden which is one of my favorite when I was young because of its little old fashioned design. I will never forget to show them the Japanese garden a miniature of Japanese landscape that symbolize the friendship and end of war between nations.  I knew I would feel like a real tourist guide after this one. And I will never forget Elijah’s favorite the Orchidarium that consist of a hundred types of beautiful orchid. I’m sure she will hug me for that since she really love orchids.
We are going to ride a “Kalesa” a cartwheel carried by a horse, since this is a native way to take a ride and let them explore while they experience the old fashion means of transportation in our country while we tour around the place. I do this once in a while when I visit this park and always bring excitement that seems like new all the time, especially from first timer. There is so much to see around this park.
In the mid afternoon I will take them to the newly established Manila Ocean Park where they will enjoy the breathtaking real life encounter of varieties of marine creatures like Sharks, Jellies, Sting-ray and Octopus. They will experience a real underwater dive to touch the fishes in their own hand if they like. What a wonderful adventure it would be, a one of a kind and probably the best.  After that we will indulge ourselves from a nearby fine dining restaurant and get ourselves full.
The national museum is just around and a very good place to impress a foreigner to see the wonderful creations and masterpiece of our ancestors like the Spolarium of Juan Luna which has gain an international recognition, the galleries and artifacts, remembering the culture of the past and most of all to appreciate the kind of people in our country.
Finally, to end the day would be to show them and watch the beautiful sunset while we walk along the Manila Bay to appreciate the wonderful creation of nature.  Alem will bring home a spark of amazement and enjoy the warm hospitality among the Filipino.  And for Elijah, a remembrance of eternal friendship and a gift of love she’ll never forget, like I do.
