The K-Pop Asian Invasion

     The Philippines has welcomed the coming of Asia-novela tele-series from different channels especially from ABS-CBN channel 2 and GMA Channel 7 this tele-series has become more highly popular and accepted because of its Filipino translation. Among the most popular Asia-novel’s are Meteor Garden, Lovers in Paris, and Endless love. The popularity of the famous Asian actors and actresses rises even more when they include their famous songs, particularly the Korea or K pop music. The Korea-novela carried out the K-pop music and has been popularized not just in the Philippines but also in entire Asian nation and soon the world as well.

      The close cultural relationship of Korea and the Philippines has somehow added the value of interchanging products and services but also entertainment and religious beliefs. Koreans nationals has the biggest crowd visit here in our country for the last ten years. Most of them are students who are willing to stay here to learn about English  communication and cross cultural adaptive behavior while some are business people who have found a market niche and probably a partner for life and these has been the reason why these two countries has a very close multi-cultural relationship 

      The Philippines has accepted the culture and music of the Koreans especially teen-ager who somehow created a new fads and fashion in music industry when they themselves imitate and idolize such musician. The K pop music has been widely accepted and somehow become even more popular when some K-pop singers have visited the country to perform a concert series groups like 4 minutes, Super Junior etc. Almost all the group of this so called Korean Singers have gotten a good crowd support while still capturing the audience through others forms of media like the Internet streaming media, social networking and blogs.

      Among the most famous K-pop singers include the groups, 2ne1 with their song 2 fire, Super Junior’s sorry sorry, 4 minutes Hot issue, After school, 5 dolls, Big bang and many others. These Korean groups have a combination of hip-hop and pop kind of music added their own twist of style and dance move plus the looks of the singers which are mostly young and fresh, that is why this music attracts the audience more to this generation. Children and adults in the Philippines love to sing, dance and party that’s maybe the reason why this kind of music has gain so much popularity, more so they love music from other countries that is why foreigner are very glad once they visit here in our country they are treated like a big stars that’s is why they keep coming back for more. Actually not all songs are highly accepted and can be easily understood since their songs are written in their own Korean native tongue. But surely most of them are best loved. 

      Sandara Park a member of 2ne1 group has been accepted here in our country as a Filipino singer with his song In or Out and as an actress on television and the big screen teaming up with Hero Angeles in early years of 2000. While she’s just starting her career she went back to Korea for some reason after a year’s people seems to lose a charm on her that is why she went back to Korea and finally found another group that makes here even more a brighter star.  

      The colonial mentality of the Filipino still exists even in the music industry but that doesn’t mean that the music generation from our country would be replaced from other nations. On my personal point of view it is just that Filipino love music in all forms and generation. That is why all music from around the world has been accepted here in our country. In fact according to many foreigners who visit our country including the famous Air Supply band say’s that give the Filipino a microphone and they will sing to the last breathe they say that they have been here a hundred times for series of concerts but still the Filipinos never get enough of them for the last 30 years.     

      Back to the K-pop singers, up to now they are still gaining high demand and popularity. But just like the songs in the past like the songs of the king of Pop “Michael Jackson”, this kind of music will soon fade and will be replaced by another generation the world may offer like it has always been, and their song will soon just become another memory of the past.
