The recent fight of Manny Pacquiao has once again brought our country to prestige in the heart of boxing fans throughout the world. There is not much to say about the man because of his popularity and everybody knows about his greatness, his courage and his tremendous strength that no one had ever posses entirely throughtout boxing history for he has defeated all the best in the world in eight different division.
Personally, may I say that he is an epitome of a champion and of a man not just because of his belt on his waist but because of his character. What really interests me is the undying love for his countrymen that in spite of his fame and fortune and richest he is still willing and dying to serve his hometown in General Santos City being elected as a Congressman. His first plan was to put up a Hospital that will cater to the needs of the people who have long suffered from strictly driven poverty areas where there are unreachable medical services. Sometimes I feel that he can simply lie down on his bed all year round and still manage to have the luxury of life, but still he thought about the welfare of the people. He said that this is his way to give back all the love of the people who continuously supported him during his entire career.
Once again his courage inspired me to develop an undying pursuit to greatness and a never say die attitude. His fight inside the ring is a punch of courage and it is not a fight for an opponent but a sign of sportsmanship that makes him a champion from the rest of the champions. I remember one time about his fight with Antonio Margarito when he could easily knockdown the man and tried to pin him down with shame but he did not instead he ask the referee for stoppage but the man refused and insist to fight him all throughout but he spared his opponent for by holding out his punches for he saw the man was weak.
In an interview after the fight he said that “boxing is a sport it’s not about killing anybody”. I remember this is his last few words after the fight and this makes him even greater and an epitome of a champion for he has acted like one. His ability doesn’t ask for a favor or reassurance for audience’s applause but respect he has deserved for his opponents when margarito saying after the fight that he has done everything he had but manny is truly the best in the world. And recently Shane Mosley repeatedly saying that he has experience the hardest punches with Manny throughout his career. Manny Pacquiao faces all its opponent even they all have the advantage in height, weight and reach in fact mostly he fought a big guy and win against them.
Whether inside and outside the ring one thing that I admired most is his faith in God for he has put all his heart and mind to give back all his honor and praises to the one who gave him strength. During the fight he would go to the corner of the ring and seek God for wisdom, and after the fight he would lift his arms to honor and give thanks to God’s glory. One thing he has asked his friends and families is to pray for him so that he would not be hurt much, or hurt much his opponent but give a good fight for the audience.
Against all odds did he fight his enemy and critics with fashion and pride that wouldn’t succumb to exaggeration but with calmness and righteousness to uplift his morale; When Floyd May weather shown his trembling fear and discouragement towards fighting Manny all he could do is to stabbed him in the back when he tried to destroy manny’s image by saying that manny has been using performance enhancing drugs. But manny stand out to sue his oppressor for he has no use of trash talking but settle their arguments legally in court.
These amazing facts are indeed a remarkable and genuine characteristic of an epitome of a man and a champion in all sports but in life. Manny Pacquiao's victory which I truly admired does makes him a hero and a national pride, and this remarks concludes him in regard for my worth in fact our worth being a Filipino that me and actually all of us being a Filipino makes us a champion.
