Willie Revillame should really be careful with his public pronouncements since a lot of people really think he's the Messiah. So now that he knows what power he holds among the poor, he should be very careful that none of these people die unnecessarily, for a bag of rice or a million to one chance to win some money. That would have really been a possibility last Friday and Saturday, good thing the ULTRA stampede experience has already taught the public to be less agitated this time around.
I saw the melee first hand since I live very near Amoranto Stadium. Yes, the police estimates of 45000 were accurate since the queue really snaked around our neighborhood and Scout Chuatoco and Roces, streets that I ply, had to be blocked! Que horror! When I went home around midnight, the estimate of 5000 was still accurate since the place was still very busy! In a way, it showed the loyalty of Willie's fans, but on the other hand, it also shows that the government still has failed to reach a significant portion of our population. And their only hope to be uplifted from their poverty can only be addressed by guesting and winning in a popular local TV show.
