It was a relatively quieter New Year's Eve this year and hopefully, I
won't be reading any more New Year's fatalities in the news later. Or
maybe that's just wishful thinking.
Manila has always been
noisy and dusty during New Year's Eve so it's something we have always
looked forward to. It's just that in the past five years, the noise
levels have gone down significantly and most of the fireworks and
noisemaking just last for an hour, unlike in the 90s and the 00s when it
lasted so long and the dust was so thick!
Nowadays, it's not that rambunctiously noisy anymore, which is actually fine with me!
It's great to see Tacloban slowly getting up on its feet again! I really hope everything normalizes soon!
RIP Nelson Mandela, thank you for making the world a much better place!
I was still a young boy who couldn't comprehend the ugliness of
apartheid - seeing South African athletes participate again in the 1984
LA Olympics and musicians like Paul
Simon, through his glorious 1986 classic album, Graceland, show the
whole world, the beauty of your country's people - when everyone else
shunned your country's oppressive regime and the suffering they were
going through.
Your courage and grace is an inspiration for freedom-loving people worldwide. Your legacy is secure in our hearts!
