Kindness of strangers swells with waters

The Filipino spirit of bayanihan never dampened during the height of the torrential rains earlier this week.  Even in our own neighborhood here in Roxas District, the barangay volunteers ensured that those who needed to be saved were given priority.  I actually saw some guys resuce an old man in a wheelchair in the house across ours!  The waters in their area have reached waist level already so he had to be transferred to a safer area.

We did allow Jessie, one of our other drivers to use our L300 so that he can bring his wife and kids to safer ground - he said to some of his relatives in Fairview.  My friend Denky, cooked food for us and even lent her gasul so we could cook!  Such a kind lady!  She also gave some biscuits and chocolates to Laura and Dylan.  We're just ever so thankful for kind people like her!

Manila Water makes profit of P2.6 B in first half of 2012

This is good news for us since we have some Manila Water stocks!  Hurrah!  We've always trusted the Ayalas since they have been very prudent managers of whatever business they run - and they have consistently been keeping the stock price of Manila Water on the rise since we started buying it a few years back

‘Mistress, wife, money’ in bus drivers’ minds

This is a very interesting article and I'm glad they are doing these studies to really find out how to help our bus drivers, especially that they carry many lives in their own hands!  Driving in and around EDSA is really stressful - and I try to avoid it myself kasi talaga, nakakawindang siya, especially if you do it everyday!  So I perfectly understand why bus drivers would figure in accidents, especially if they lose concentration in their work!

The View of the Flooding From Our House

Our place, Roxas District, has become synonymous with intense flooding because portions of our place go under water even at the lightest of rains.  This usually happens in the places near the bigger feeder creek near Umbel.  Even when I was younger, those places were notoriously flood prone, yet a lot of people live there.

However, Ondoy changed all of that, and that unassuming creek that passes by our house swells everytime the rainfall becomes excessive!  Here are some pictures as to how our neighbors are coping with the flooding everytime the rains become really strong!

August Moonsoon Mayhem: Floodwaters Enter Our House

After Ondoy flooded our house in October of 2012, we realized how vulnerable our location wise.  I've never really noticed that small creek beside our house till that terrible day - and by then, knew that we were in for more flooding if rains like that of Ondoy occurred.

Three years later, our fears became reality once again -as the incessant rains from Sunday, August 5 until Tuesday, August 7, finally caused another Ondoy-type flooding.  This time, the waters seeped in at 5AM.  The rise was a bit slower than Ondoy but still as frightening.  The water entered the house by 7AM and rose to its highest between noon till the evening as the rains never stopped.

Our electricity was cut by 9AM and lasted for more than 30 hours.  We had to survive two candlelit dinners!

Our whole driveway was flooded up to 8 feet during the peak of the flooding but subsided to just around waist level.  They said the water went down 22 hours after it came in.

Below are some pictures of the flooding in our house and driveway -
