Air passenger rights up for review

I was only a convert to low-cost carriers just recently so this review of our rights is something that I'm interested in, although experience-wise, I know that rebooking flights in these airlines are well, super hopeless!

Bumped off? Airlines now have to pay you more: About time!

Mercifully, I haven't been bumped off in a local flight, but once in an international flight.  However, the compensation was much more than what this article says, maybe because it was not in my home country - and of course, the hassles we had to experience because of their fault.  Anyway, it's about time, we, the harassed passengers get a little bit of respect from the airlines, whether they be the budget kind or just the normal one.

Pipe Dream: That a Filipino Airline Flies to Europe Once Again

Now there's news that the direct flights to Europe brought about by Air France-KLM may stop since the airline is paying the biggest amount among all airlines of the 3-percent common carrier tax and the 2.5 percent on all cargo and passenger revenue.

This makes it even more urgent for our local airlines like Cebu Pacific to try to break into the European market.  The OFW market is lucrative enough, and add to that, the European tourists planning to come here.  Of course, it's still a pipe dream, but something that I'm sure we can attain, hopefully, in the next five years.

I don't know how that goes about though since I know that the European Union has very strict standards re airline safety.  But, to dream is still free, and I still look forward to the day that a Philippine airline will fly me to my European destination every year.

Happy For Cebu Pacific!

Now at 133 pesos per share, the bigwigs at Cebu Pacific must now be grinning from ear-to-ear!  That's certainly a vote of confidence for them, as they make their company public, and get that much needed infusion of cash for whatever expansion they are planning for.  Maybe flights to Europe in the future?

Undeniably, they have revolutionized flying in the Philippines!  The concept of low-cost airlines is nothing new and is replicated everywhere in the world, but we have made the concept extra special! We have added the Pinoy touch to it - from dancing flight attendants to parlor games on the air, to zero fares - their marketing team is really keeping those novel ideas coming!  They have certainly made it possible for almost anyone, to travel abroad, or to places which would've been unthinkable, even a decade ago!  I will buy some of their shares soon, but maybe not now because I don't think I'd get dividends for it.  And the Filipino stock market is so bouyant, it would be crazy to buy at these very high prices!

But still, congratulations to another truly Filipino company!
