Dapo and Carmi Martin: Twin Gay Plays

One of the plays I am looking forward to watching is this twin gay playbill of Dapo and Carmi Martin!  It is currently running at The Library in Malate, Manila for the next few Sundays until August 12.

Dapo is directed by Paul Santiago and features Andrei Vegas and Jay Enriquez while Carmi Martin, nominated for Aliw Awards for Best Actor and Best Direction, features Paul Jake Paule and Kyle Thomas.  Direction is by Bong Cabrera.

I am still looking for someone to bring with me to this play though.

However, just in case any of you decides to watch it, you may contact them at 09157694216.

Revisiting Gaydar

Seven years ago, when I was still living in Hong Kong, one of the more popular gay dating websites then was Gaydar.  So anyway, I was pretty active there till 2008 when I returned to Manila to another completely different Internet dating landscape.  That meant my Gaydar profile went on hibernation for sometime, except for for use in those intermittent short trips abroad.

Anyhow, I decided to revisit the site last night and voila, my profile was still there, and it had a few messages!  And the guys looked cool too!  Anyway, I updated some of the stuff there including the picture and most likely I'll be visiting the site from time to time when I get the itch to go dating!  The site layout has changed, once again, but it's now quicker to load pictures!  I don't think Gaydar is that popular in the Philippines but it's a good way to meet tourists passing by the Philippines for vacation.

Some courts are ruling ‘gay’ is not slanderous

Well, at least now, this is a step towards the right direction.  At least it teaches the younger gay men and women that there is nothing wrong with them.  One step at a time!  Of course, here in the Philippines, being gay is already acceptable but not yet in the more business-like sectors of our society.

My Third HIV Test

Nothing is more unnerving for any gay man than to wait for the results of his HIV test.  I underwent my third HIV test in my whole life today, since it's the new year and I wanted a clean bill of health.  My first two tests done in 2006 and 2008 were done in the private clinic of my doctor friend but since he is based in Europe nowadays, I had to search for an alternative place.

I discovered that our local government here in the Philippines has Social Hygiene clinics which administer these tests!  They also do STD tests for syphilis and gonorrhea.  And it's for free! Imagine that!

Anyhow, I went to their Social Hygiene clinic in front of Sandiganbayan in Fairview.  It's beside that huge tricycle parking area.  There is available parking space beside the clinic, so you can bring your car.

Once inside the clinic, they will get your details.  Be prepared to tell the truth since they will ask for your sexual history.  Then they will do some counseling re AIDS and STD.  After that, they will get a swab of your penis excretion and your tongue to check if it's disease-free.  Don't be ashamed.  Better to know if you're carrying something dreadful.  The staff is professional in this matter.

Finally, they will extract a little blood from you to check for HIV and other STDs.  The HIV result will come after 10 minutes.  The STDs will be identified after a week.  Again, these tests are for FREE!

Well, I tested negative for HIV, so I was really relieved.  I am still awaiting the results for the other STDs.

Senator Sotto has a 200 million peso pork barrel and he cannot hire a decent writer for his speeches??!! I was a ghost writer for some politicians 15 years ago during my 'raket' days so I know what goes on in this type of work, so I was really shocked to know na in our present Senate, ganito na pala kababa ang writing standards nila. And lawyers na yan sila ha! Nakakahiya, who hired these people?
Sana ako na lang hinire ni Sen. Sotto hehe. I charge a bit higher now but nothing that could dent his multimillion peso pork barrel! E kahit pro-RH bill ako, I could still write him a good anti-RH bill speech - trabaho lang, walang personalan! Tuloy, clown na siya sa former work niya, clown na rin ang tingin ng mundo sa kanya! And now, people associate Sotto with bobo, literally......pati speech kinokopya lang e...paiyak iyak pa....actor talaga......

Dark Ages

Don't always believe the church!  If you read their history (as recounted here by the venerable De Quiros), they have made many mistakes and have branded people who went against their 'beliefs' as heretics and burned them at the stake or some freakin' inquisition.  It is still happening now and the poor teachers who are just expressing their academic freedom are today's 'witches' to be burned at the stake!  What happened to dialogue and intellectual reasoning?  Universities are supposed to be places where students and teachers can debate freely about ideas.  Now it's turned into a McCarthy trial and anyone labeled with 'unchristian' beliefs are held suspect.

I went to a liberal Catholic high school and we had sex education - in the freakin' 80s!  We discussed cunnilingus and necrophilia and fellatio so we knew what they were.  To date, none in my batch has been convicted of any sex offense.

We need sex education in schools as the RH Bill provides so that young women won't say to me, "Mabubuntis pala ako kahit once lang namin ginawa." "Kaya nga may bibig ka at kamay para hindi dun ipasok.  Pag dun pinasok at pumutok, magnovena ka na, gaga! "Absent ka ba nung diniscuss ng Biology teacher mo yung parts of the 'flower' and the 'bird'?  Wala ba kayong Health Education, di niyo ba diniscuss yung fertilization process?  San ka ba nag-aral teh? Nakakaloka makipag-usap ng shonga!  And when I ask, "San na ang bf mo" "Ayun, wala na po".....sad.......

First woman Chief Justice in the Philippines

We've already had two women presidents so why not a female Chief Justice!  I guess it's about time too, and especially that it comes at a crucial time in our history, where judicial reforms are needed to be implemented to go hand in hand with the political reforms PNoy is trying to enforce in the executive section of the government.

Amazed at the Simple Life of Jesse Robredo

Leaders like the late Secretary Jesse Robredo seem to be the exception rather than the rule, here in the Philippines.  I don't know much about him and I only learned about his extensive local government service due to his untimely death.  But leaders like him, who are selfless and lead simple lives are very difficult to find here!  Every single mayor, governor, congressman, senator, and whatnot in this country seem to have such a big posse who go with them anywhere they go.

They also have expensive toys with them - a garish car - a mansion with the right address - intimidating bodyguards in barong and sunglasses - all that and more, so much so that when I saw the humble abode of the Robredo family in Naga City - I was completely floored!  This guy was the mayor of Naga like for forever, but from the looks of it, he never stole a single cent from ALL the contracts and deals the city made with whoever!  It's incredible!  Elected politicians especially in local governments like cities and provinces, usually have the sense of entitlement that's why they have their fingers in all the projects done in the city! 15% here, 20% there, maybe a condo here - you know exactly what I mean. But I guess, not Sec. Jesse Robredo.  His humility and lack of pretension equals only that of Cory Aquino.  I really wish we had more leaders like them.

And now he's gone......What a pity......

A Tip For Agricultural Entrepreneurs: Plant Natural Ingredients

Would you believe the natural ingredients industry is worth US$400-billion worldwide?  Just imagine if we can get even 10% of that, that would be give us an extra 160 billion pesos in change!  Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala has said it's high time our local farmers cash in on that lucrative market.  We do have some unused agricultural land in Mindanao that I have to check out - maybe we can use some of them to plant these things!  Problem is, I am no farmer!  For now, lagundi and luyang dilaw are the ones in demand.  There's also tamarind.  What's good about these products are they're easy to  manage and require minimum inputs.  Just a food for thought for me.  A gentleman farmer in my 50s.  That's a good idea!

70,000 Jobs Generated in Clark

I have seen the development in Clark and I'm impressed - and also happy to know that all that development has led to the hiring of 70,000 Filipinos!  A step in the right direction!  Right now, around 567 locators are providing these jobs although when you do go around the place it looks quiet, traffic-free and devoid of people!  Well, they should be there somewhere!
