Traits of Filipinos That We Can Be Proud Of

Becoming successful in the field of business or profession is not an easy task.  Whereas, becoming famous and   most in demand artist or talent is confronted with lots of challenges and risks either.  Remember, not all people are qualified to become successful entrepreneurs, professionals, artists or athletes.  People may be rich, famous, and influential but if you lack the traits to become a successful in your field of endeavor, then you can not succeed in spite of how many times you try.  However Filipino people have somewhat unique legacy among the rest of the world.  Filipinos have outstanding traits that make us distinctive from the other culture. This is also the main reason that a lot of Filipino people have the ability to alter the course of their destiny. Filipinos are indeed   world-class people with their unique qualities that can not be found in any other nationalities.    We should be proud   with our exceptional traits as Filipinos because   it only shows how competent Filipinos are in the local industry, and even in the international industry.  Personally, I truly observe that most of the rich and successful Filipino entrepreneurs and artists nowadays   have not been able to attain any greatest education from the premium schools; foremost, most of them came from rugs to riches.  But, look at them now; many Filipino entrepreneurs have already owned various multinational corporations here in the Philippines. While, most Filipino artists and talents are indeed successful in their chosen careers as well.  Aside from owning several properties and business establishments in the country; they are even globally recognized for their outstanding contributions in the international arena.  What they have are the three very important common traits of Filipinos that we can be proud of; and they include their  creativity, strong self-confidence, and determination in life.
Furthermore, there are many Filipino artists who despite came from   poor families, are still able to let their selves shine nowadays in the field of acting and singing in local scene, and foremost in the international scene. And, because of their exceptional talent in the field of arts, they can easily adapt to the requirement that the job calls for.  Additionally, it is very important that Filipinos truly believe   that we can highly excel among the rest of the people in the world. We are naturally gifted with unique talent, artistry and creativity by our God.  As you can see, there are many Filipino artists, who sing and act magnificently even without formal training.  Eventually, they shine even more with formal training and proper coaching.  In addition to that, Filipinos have that “common sense” quality.  Let us take for example, our   own World Boxing Champion Congressman Manny Pacquiao.  He is the living proof of having Filipino traits that you can never find in other nationalities.  Who else..? Charisse Pempengco is another   pride of Filipinos.  Despite the fact, that she raised from a poor family in Laguna,   and has not been able to acquire a formal education.   It did not stop her to reach her dream to become a successful international artist.  And, that is because she acquires the traits of the Filipinos that we can always be proud of to the rest of the world.  She is indeed a world-class artist, who knows what she really got, that is why she is full of pride to show it to the rest of the world.  Look at her now, Charisse Pempengco is one of the famous and richest Filipino female singers   in the Philippines today.  Another good example here are the PLDT and TV 5 businessman icon Manuel Pangilinan and the controversial TV host Willie Revillame.
There are many Filipino businessmen who are in the peak of their entrepreneurial careers, merely because of their determination and courage to succeed in life. And, more than anything else is the   leadership skills that are already in still in them.  At the same time, they really believe in themselves that is the reason that they enable to surpass every challenges that they face everyday.  Besides, Filipino entrepreneurs have that strong common sense and stock knowledge that they use in if a certain situation calls for it.  Common sense is very vital in running any business.  In fact, it is the strong foundation for anyone’s success in every field or business too.  Many Filipinos have the clear knowledge on how to run effectively the business.  As well as they acquire self confidence, and creativity that allows Filipino entrepreneurs to   surpass all the obstacles that come in their way.  They know how to stand up and bounce back after numerous failures and adversities.

100 DAYS TO HEAVEN (True Love or Foolishness?)

June 29 Episode is certainly one of my favorite not much about the acting or the characters but the lesson does it bring, the love of a friend and a love that’s true will always remain in sickness and in health till death do us part according to the bows of marriage and it must be fulfilled by husband and wife and from this episode it really does, Love is the most powerful nature here on earth.
Carmen and Rene came back in the Philippines after long years of stay in the United States to look for Anna and their daughter, Rene’s past have been haunting him about their daughter that he has abandoned and now that his life would soon be over because of his heart problem he needs to see Anna and their daughter so that he could ask for forgiveness. But Rene’s illness brought him to the hospital instead of looking for Anna. His wife Carmen has been very supportive about looking for his lost daughter since they never really had a son or daughter she have accepted the womanizing behavior of Rene during those times and have already forgiven her many times and she still loved her in spite the fact that he has been unfaithful most of the times.
Upon looking for Anna Carmen has found Sophia and young Anna in the hospital since Kevin was also in the hospital they have met, so Carmen took the opportunity to grab the help Sophia has been offering since they also work in the Toy Company which Anna Manalastas owned. Carmen has been very happy about what he just heard not knowing that it was the young Anna and Anna Manalastas they have looking for is definitely the same person. And so Carmen thought about telling them the real reason why they have been looking for Anna. It was then she realized that she has been blinded by love for accepting Rene.
We were best of friends any time he has a needs and in trouble he would visit me and asked for help he even slept at home so I can comfort him, most of the time he’s been in trouble about his job and other woman told Carmen. He has told me everything about his bad experiences including his womanizing behavior and I am the only one who admitted him for we were best of friends Carmen added. Anna can’t help but to ask, and yet you still loved him? He is my best friend that’s why, she replied. I have accepted everything about him for the sake of our friendship until we have come to know that we are meant for each other and I love him.
But our relationship has been very hard because of his womanizing habit and we had a series of break ups and reconciliation, because every time he made mistakes I always forgiven him many times. I know in my heart I would accept him simply because my love is true. This has been her confession, Anna and Sophia really belief about her for it was Anna who has been one of the victims of Rene’s sins. He has been immature and overgrown promising to change many times but he did not. Girls come and go in his life but I’m the only one who stay I felt like I have been immune about his sins that I can always forgive him all the time though it hurts.
We never had a daughter because I’m impotent Rene was really disappointed, he would get drank all the time, he was fired on his job and lost his business including most of our savings and now he is dying slowly in pain. He left me during those times but I’m afraid to lose him but I learned to let go and we part ways, we tried to file divorce but he’s heart disease grew weary to undergone surgery. During those times he had no one but me, so I brought him home and took care of him hoping that after all this years he would love me back just like the old times we were friends he would come back to me just like the old times.
Somehow I knew he needed me and I’ll never left him and he does returned but he is weakened by his disease. He thought that his setback is a curse from God for he had sinned so much. Until then he thought about his daughter and Anna about finding them. That’s why I thought that he will be serious about his daughter so we came back here to look for her and ask their forgiveness before he would die. But we were late since Anna had already died.
This story is a manifestation of truth and it can happen in real life I just can’t understand. But the argument still keeps lingering on my mind, is it true love or foolishness? I don’t know, how about you?  You’ll be the judge.

Philippine Fashion Watch: Royally Pineda

Eric Pineda Holiday 2011

Exude royal and elegant grace in this Eric Pineda creation.  Pineda’s Holiday 2011 collection is dark and definitely Elizabethan.  The entire collection is black and gold with very rich materials being used and great embroidered details applied which gives the collection a very luxe look.  This particular dress is quite severe at first glance, but when you look at the specific parts of the dress the amount of careful detail that was put into the dress is apparent.  The intricacy of the corset-style bodice is quite beautiful.  Though the underskirt is not entirely to my liking with its humongous, golden, building façade, it works well for runway.  The overskirt created with a material in black with gold embroidered brocade details adds to the richness and opulence of the look.  Don’t leave home without your mantilla and peinata placed on your head and your abanico in hand to complete the look.
Eric Pineda Holiday 2011

Are you feeling like playing the fun and mischievous role of a court jester?  Then don this whimsical ensemble by Pineda.  The top again conforms to Piñeda’s royal courtroom look for Holiday 2011.  The corset bodice and lace and ruffle details embody the Elizabethan –era fashion.  The gold, embroidered details on the bottom part of the blouse and on the side slits of the trousers adds to the flair of the ensemble.  The usage of black, nude and gold gives the outfit a bold look.  Definitely a look only a very self-assured woman can pull off.  Paired with sensible platforms in gold and a vintage drawstring evening bag in gold lamé and one can sashay their way down a red-carpet event for an awards ceremony or movie opening.  This ensemble will certainly catch the eyes and keep the paparazzi snapping away.

Eric Pineda Holiday 2011

This outfit is a more muted design by Pineda which is definitely more wearable off the runway.  Again the colour black is dominant with only the intricate gold embroidery that embellishes the sides of the leggings and the front of the tunic-like shirt.  I would not wear the necklace as the model is wearing on the runway as it detracts from the beautiful detail of the shirt.  Instead I would opt for chandelier earrings in gold and diamonds.  Strappy high heels in black or gold would complete the outfit.  A clutch bag in either gold or with Swarovski crystals would complement the ensemble.  This piece is a definite must for a classy-casual to semi formal affairs.  I would even wear it to work should I have a meeting with an important client.  I am sure the client will not forget the outfit.

Eric Pineda Holiday 2011

This outfit by Eric Pineda with the page-boy type of skirt is definitely an oddity if worn off the runway.  However, there are certain elements from this ensemble which could be translated and worn off the runway.  Unless of course you are the type of person who has a fierce enough personality which can carry this look off the runway.  No matter what, it certainly will be a center point for tête à tête!  Once again Pineda stays with the somber black colour but tedium of plain black is shot through with gold details.  The top of this outfit is a bit more risqué than the other outfits with its sheer top and only the embroidery detail with the gold bits on it for modesty.  The balloon-like page-boy skirt is black and gold.  The fitted, thigh-high boots gives the ensemble an edge.
Eric Pineda Holiday 2011
Pineda’s Holiday 2011 collection is certainly demanding for the ladies to have strong characters to pull his looks off.  It seems however that the same holds true for his collection for the men-folk.  The black and gold colour scheme prevails for Pineda’s men’s line; however they are sportier in comparison to the women’s collection.  My husband would certainly wear the lace v-neck shirt (with a lot of pushing on my part) as long as it is under a jacket and paired with jeans.  But those gold lamé pants would certainly be asking a little bit too much from him.  Those pants could only be worn by men who are very assured of themselves or ones who favour to stand-out from the crowd.  It is reminiscent of Michael Jackson’s style back in the 1980’s.  Transform this look to street wear and you have a classy casual look which goes from happy hours to après dinner hours.

Social Advocacies that Require a Political Solution

Filipino activism, broadcast journalism and politics at their best is personified in Risa Hontiveros-Baraquel, or commonly known as Risa Hontiveros, who was the party-list representative of the Akbayan Citizens’ Action Party to the 14th Congress of the Philippines from 2004 to 2010.[1] During her first term in Congress, she has accomplished more than other members of Congress who have been in their positions longer, which has been no surprise since she has a track record of commitment and dedication to uplift the live of the marginalized, voiceless and forgotten.[2] She lost in her senatorial bid under the Liberal Party in the 2010 elections.
Hontiveros was born in 1966 in Manila, completed her early education at the St. Scholastica’s College, graduated with a Social Sciences degree, cum laude, from the Ateneo de Manila University in 1987 and finished a Managing Arts Program at the Asian Institute of Management in 2004. She has been raising four children on her own after the demise of her spouse Francisco Baraquel Jr. who was a Philippine National Police Service Stores System operations manager.[3]
Hontiveros was exposed early in different programs on television because of her charm and personality. She has worked as a co-host and executive producer in the stations, RPN-9, ABS-CBN, PTV-4, SBN-21, GMA-7 and IBC-13 and was GMA Network News anchor from 1992 to 1998.[4] She has also received the Golden Dove Award for Best Female Newscaster from the Kapisanan ng Mga Broadkaster ng Pilipinas. Hontiveros has been affiliated with a number of political and activist organizations and movements including Coalition for Peace, Pilipina and Institute for Politics and Governance, and has served in various committees such as Ethics and Privileges, Human Rights and Women and Gender Equality as a member of the House Minority.[5] She has filed several bills that aim to protect women and promote their rights including the Reproductive Health Bill, the Anti-Prostitution Bill and the Gender Balance  Bill. The Bill for Cheaper Medicines that she crafted allows parallel importation of medicines and compulsory licensing to lower the cost of essential medicines in the country. Her office filed the CARLExtension Bill which pushes for the extension of agrarian reform implementation and a more suitable program for the needs of farmers.[6] Among the measures she would have supported had she been elected as Senator include those on anti-corruption, salary standardization, expansion of the national health insurance program, the Alternative Mining Bill and the establishment of the Philippine Trade Representatives Office to bolster the country’s posture in global negotiations.[7]
Risa Hontiveros’s calm demeanor in the midst of her passionate activism and convictions has earned the respect of her peers and the trust of her constituents because her voice is assured of a hearing in all settings.[8] Clear and eloquent language
without bombast is a powerfut tool in which an electoral political leader can raise issues to the level where people can truly understand and appreciate them. Hontiveros has this quality in her, which when combined with her social insight has helped open the eyes of Filipinos on what ails Philippine society and government and what can be done to improve people’s lives and their environment. What impresses me about Hontiveros is her innate social consciousness that was manifested when she was still a student and her decision to enter electoral politics to offer and realize solutions to the problems of the nation. She could easily have chosen a different and perhaps more lucrative way of life for herself and her family, but instead opted for the higher calling of public service and offering her talents for the national interest. While she may very well desire to achieve personal political glory in the process, this to my mind is a natural by-product in bringing one’s own solutions to bear on the problems at hand. Individuals like Risa Hontiveros are a cut above the rest and elicit respect and love from the citizenry.

100 DAYS TO HEAVEN (Love and Deception)

June 27 episode is a girl’s night out. Jessica calls Sophia and invited Yani for a girl’s to girl talk, she wants to thank Sophia for what she has done by introducing her to the public as the soon to be new owner of the Toy Company being the nephew of Anna. When Sophia entered the club that’s where she loose contact with Madam Anna, since the place is loaded with party people and club music. Everybody seems to know Jessica now that she is the owner of the most prestigious toy company she’s like a celebrity.
While outside the bar there’s Madam Anna standing by for what would turn out to be night of spy has become a horrible nightmare. Madam Anna cannot enter the club since she is inside the body of a little girl. She thought of using the back entrance to escape the guard’s attention. Jopet saw Yani and find her attractive that she felt in love at first sight but he never manages to escape from the guard to enter the bar because of the shirts he wore. Bruce stopped Jopet upon entering the club.
Meanwhile inside the club, Jessica, Yani and Sophia has finally met just in time for Bart to call Jessica about what’s been happening. Bart asked her not to talk about their relationship especially when Sophia is around, he told her not to trust the girl but Jessica resisted and continue talking to the girls about her boyfriend. Jessica’s intention was simply trying to know the personality of Sophia.
In the heart of Yani she knows that her brother Bart never really love Jessica in the first place but his deceptive intention was to attract her so that they can inherit all the riches that Jessica has, while Sophia has been doubtful about Bart. Sophia’s intention on Jessica, she is just plain quiet and observant of what soon to be traumatic event that would hurt Jessica in the future. And so it does. Jessica told Sophia and Yani about Bart that he is so honest and a caring man. Jessica wanted to bridge the gap between Sophia and Bart about their misunderstanding telling them that she would die when she loose the man she loved. Yani coughing and could not believe what she just heard knowing that his brother never really love Jessica but Sophia.
Meanwhile, Anna on his way to the backdoor has just saw a familiar man and could not believe what he saw, it was an old acquaintance, her boyfriend, her first love and the father of her one and only daughter who left her deceiving her that he loved her but victimized her in a stake of his friends prize of making her fall in love. Madam Anna’s mind brought in the realization of the pass and her mistakes of falling in love with this kind of arrogant man. For it was during her pregnancy that she was left by this man in humiliation with his friend telling her that he never really loved her and it was all lies. That was the last time he saw the man the father of his unloved child leaving her in pain. She stumbled upon thinking and back again in her mind.
The girls night’s out has ended but still Bart has been the topic but Sophia advice Jessica to try to know him better before falling too deep and that ended the conversation. They were about to go home when a drunk man blocked their way asking about their numbers but when the man tried to grab Yani, Sophia was quick to prevent him and fool him with a kick and some guys tried to prevent the man to leave them far behind. Sophia has brought scenery of heroic act in their presence thanking her for the help she has done. Yani has been very thankful about the incidence thanking her and compromised her to be her sister. At that same night Madam Anna was restless about the man he just saw thinking, Sophia suggested finding the man to release the anger in her heart.
The next scene seems to be a comic relief that struck me when jopet is day dreaming about Yani even though she knows that it is nearly impossible, her grandma recognized her feeling and advice him to wait for the right time, for true love waits. The next day, they were looking for Rene the ex boyfriend of Madam Anna and when they found him, Anna slapped her face, that ended this episode.
You can fool some people all the time and you can fool all people some of the time but you cannot fool all people all the time. Chose love rather than deception, but if you try to hurt someone it will come back to you.

Unique Filipino Traits that We Should be Proud of

They say that every human being is unique.  And so does every race too.  As it is, every Filipino is likewise unique compared to other races in  the world combined.  We have so many traits that are irrelevant to our western and even Asian counterparts.  And we are proud of these traits to honestly say “I am proud to be a Filipino.”
One of the traits that I am particularly proud of being a Filipino  is being hospitable.  Who doesn’t like to receive hospitality in grand style?  Perhaps, no one.  But it is probably only the Filipinos that can show all and sundry what true hospitality is all about.  Hospitality in terms of welcoming our guests to our house, doing our best for our guests’ visit  to be comfortable and enjoyable in its strictest sense.  There is just such a distinctive joyous feeling preparing the house with all the trimmings and the food when one has a particular guest or guest to arrive.  A particular excitement that brings joy to every household while waiting for the arrival of the guests.  They clean the house, prepare the best food to offer, even preparing the itinerary for the activities of the guest.  Such a far cry from other races.  Receipient of Filipino hospitality be they in whatever nationalities cannot help but be awed with our own brand of hospitality.
Another admirable trait is the Filipino’s penchant to find joy in laughter.  Some people observe and agree that compared to other countries, Philippines has the least number of suicide incidence.  This is quite true because Filipinos are truly lively and happy people such that seldom do we succumbed to suicide due to depression because of our penchant to laugh out loud with friends, making a joke upon something or even making a joke upon ourselves.  Depression resulting to suicide is a common occurrence in our Western and European counterparts most likely because of their inability to cope their problem through laughter.  There must have some truth to the saying “laughter is the best medicine.”
Funny, because this is exactly what other nationalities finds strange in us.  They cannot understand the fact how we particularly enjoy indulging into lengthy pleasantries and laughter.  For all they know, these are our best weapon against depression.
Likewise, another positive unique Filipino trait that may seem alien to other race is having strong family ties.  Filipinos put family ties and relations as one of their top priorities. They would do all they could to provide and sustain their respective families. This is present in Filipino festivities where  the whole family members are invited and in family Sunday family gatherings where they would make time to use it to spend the whole day for their families.
One finds  that it is common in this country to include the extended members not just the normal nuclear family into the household. It is not unusual that in a single household many  members of the family live under the same roof. They value each other’s company, and everyone strives to provide for the whole and not just for them.
Even grandparents still have an active role in the family. It is now the norm in the society that both parents are out working, thus, leaving the care of their children to the lolos and lolas, especially if the family cannot afford to hire a nanny. Grandparents therefore become responsible for instilling into their grandchildren the values and morals they taught to their own children, further increasing the importance of the elderly in our society.  A direct contrast in our counterparts from other countries where old family members were confined to their lonesome in nursing homes otherwise referred to as home for the aged.
This particular set-up  of having extended families in one roof oftentimes becomes a source of misunderstanding especially due to financial constraint whereby those who have no work become a burden to a family member who might be  equally burdened with the household finances.
In the midst of adversities however , this set-up can be put to use to the hilt  as one family is not alone in taking part of solving the problem.
There are a lot of other unique Filipino traits that are worth mentioning but they may be reserved for future writings.  Meanwhile, it truly is distinct to be a Filipino.  We may have some shortcomings as a people who belong to a particular race, but right now our traits are awesome.

Beware of Criminals in Social Networking Sites

In real life, one is cautious and vigilant in talking to strangers, especially in divulging personal information. In some instances when we are forced to talk to them, for instance, while waiting in line with a long queue ahead, we clam up immediately as soon as we perceive that the person we are talking to is becoming personal. At least I know I do.
Even if I know that Filipinos are intrinsically curious, I just give them a smile as an answer. If asked the same question for the second time by the same person, I just try to answer in a vague way and try to focus my attention somewhere else and away from that person.  I believe others do this too.
In the social networking site that I use, I do not accept friendship requests from people I do not know. I do not even requests people I know but do not like to be my friends even just on-site. I do not post every activity that I do at present or I will do in the future. Every posting, if ever I am in the mood to do which is rare,  already happened in the past.  Nor do I post my personal numbers and information on site.
Now, why would other people divulge their personal life on a stranger? Is it because they feel safe and they feel that this stranger-friend cannot harm them as this stranger-friend is only on-line?
I clearly do not understand why certain people, especially female, would post their cell phone numbers in a social networking site where everybody can see it. These are usually coupled with photos of themselves in sexy outfits and bathing suits.  Is it in line with their personal motive of attracting “friends” from the opposite sex? Or is it just being plain naïve?
If these came from tweens or teenagers, I will understand that they are still not that familiar or attuned with the realities of life. But pictures in the networking sites are already adults and look worldly to me. Surely, they are opening themselves up for criminals to prey on them.
I know of a lady DJ with a late night program  in a radio station that talks to radio callers of which are ninety-nine percent men about their love problems. Her conversations with them are usually laden with sexual innuendoes. She even promotes her pictures in Facebook where she lolls around wearing a two-piece bathing suit. Add to this that she is pretty (in her Facebook profile), is tantamount to exposing herself to dangerous people and situations.
Why do people, mostly female again, fall “in love” with a “friend” on a social networking site not even knowing if the person they are conversing with and falling in love with  is the same person. For all they know, they might be talking to a different person or even a group of persons posing as that friend. To top it all off, they even agree to meet each other in the physical realm with the girl meeting the boy alone.
Not that every meeting will result to unhappy or even tragic ending but if I were she, I will not have the courage to do it. Nor will I allow my loved ones to do it, too.
Just recently, a well-known director was stabbed seventeen times by another man who he met in Facebook, and whom he allowed to sleep in his house. Fortunately, the stabbings were not fatal as he was able to fight the “friend” and he survived the unfortunate incident.
Last year, a friend of my sister was tagged and received a nude photo of a male colleague. The lady friend was so livid with anger that she sent the photo to all her friends including the male colleague. However, the male colleague was insisting that he had no knowledge of how his nude photo was tagged to the lady friend. Besides, he was also shocked and almost petrified with embarrassment and anger that the lady friend did not confront him first before sending the nude photo to others. The lady friend did not believe him. But it is also possible that somebody hacked his computer and sent the photo to the lady friend.  As a result, they fought using the network site with friends of both sides both ganging up the other camp.
Who have not heard of Twitter wars between celebrities and former lovers?

Fostering A Creative Economy in the Philippines

Industries that thrive on creativity are now becoming more prevalent in Asian countries such as Singapore, China, Japan, Korea, Thailand and Malaysia.  However, here in the Philippines, there is no comprehensive creative industry mapping yet that has been done by the Philippine government.  In this connection, a senior official of the Intellectual Property Office IPO-Philippines, Director General Ricardo Blancaflor gave  strong emphasis  on the  promotion of a “creative economy” in the country and reiterated that it will be a great help to the Philippine economy; as long as it will be given  full financial support by the government.  In addition to that, there must be a strong discipline orientation among the Filipinos with regard to the respect to copyrights and trademarks.
Instead of focusing on labor-exporting professions like caregiving, nursing, and marine industries, why not devote our time and effort in the creation of a suitable framework that is really needed for the management of our own creative resources.  Therefore, there must be a good academic orientation among our educators as well as among the students so as to give focus on reviving our own culture and arts.  Through this way, there would be a lot of jobs that can be created for the Filipino youth today.  All we need is to modify the government perspective towards the “creative industries in the country.  We must open our minds about many jobs as well as entrepreneurial opportunities that we have here in our own country.
Correspondingly, we produce a lot of skilled and talented individuals such as artists, designers, engineers and architects.  All these professionals are even sought after by the leading companies abroad to work for them.  There is evidence that Filipinos are skilled and talented individuals even if some of them did not acquire formal education in their existing field but through trainings and  solid work experience.  There are a lot of us who are able to market our talent and skills in the   world market.

Crimes that are being committed by people trawling the social networking sites

In the contemporary society, though cyber world offers a lot of services to   people; however, it also brings various troubles to mankind. This current cyber situation   leaves the world vulnerable to the cyber criminals.    Relatively,    every time a person opens or updates her profile on   the different social networking sites; he just gives away personal information to other people.  People are very concerned about keeping their personal identity confidential and remain private as much as possible.  But,  don’t they realize that they are just  let the cyber criminals  take advantage of their   personal identity and personal details  when they  are sharing pictures, updating their profiles, as well as entering their bank account details online? There are several reports that face book users only publish their personal details to 100 million Facebook users in the world.  These are the main reasons that a lot of cyber criminals have lot of access in trawling   to the different social networking sites to get   information for cyber scams by getting users’ bank accounts, PIN numbers and passwords. This devious idea is accompanied by a simple email from fake bogus “banks” asking for a security details in order to upgrade   your account.  In this connection, there is a previous report regarding the HSBC incident, there was a customer who called HSBC to claim his or her reward for fifty Euros for answering five survey questions about customer satisfaction with HSBC   financial products and services.  But HSBC confirmed that they   did not    have any promotional survey for their clients. It was purely scam from unauthorized individuals.  There are many online financial issues that are related to identity deception and the worst thing is; there are many victims who feel even guilty   until such time that they are proven innocent from the crime or scam.

Based on the research made, there is another cyber-crime related incident; and it is the story of a 56-year old shopper from Gloucestershire.  While she was about to pay all her goods; her debit card was rejected, and all of a sudden she was brought to the nearest police station and was detained there for eleven hours for the crime that she did not even do.  Through the help of police investigation, it was found out that the woman’s personal information was stolen from the curriculum vitae she posted online.  Her personal information was used by the fraudsters to access her bank records and was able to impersonate her identity that caused her of losing   fourteen thousand euro from her savings account.  Because of this nightmare, the woman decided to put her traumatic experience to   good use and create a website called www. Cyberfraud.org.uk. According to this woman, she only wants to give warning to other people that might be victimized by these cyber criminals.  These types of fraud is professionally operated and committed by   online gangs who use the stolen cash to fund even larger crimes like people trafficking and drug smuggling.  Aside from this, there are many fraudsters who are ready to hijack companies.  So, beware, keep sensitive information secure.   Aside from these different cyber –related crimes; there are still cyber-related incidents that many social networking site users are experiencing today.  Based on the police report, hi-tech criminals are doing 100 attacks just a second on the cyber world.  And, one of these cyber attacks is doing harm to your own personal computer.  There is large number of malicious software or malware that cause 51 percent computer viruses such as Trojan horses, worms and macro viruses among many others.
The various   social networking crimes across countries give further challenges to law enforcement in every country.  In view thereof, there are no standard laws for this case.  As a result, there are many schools worldwide that conduct cyber awareness trainings and seminars for students and parents regarding cyber crime cell.  Many non-organization agencies    are reaching out to huge number of student –online-users through issuing cyber pamphlets and showing video tapes in schools.  This is to make the young population aware of the increasing number of college students   who are already victimized by internet hacking.  Many social networking sites only waste your time in trawling; as well as these sites could only misuse your important information to other bogus online transactions.  In the same manner, social networking has been damaging the natural communicative skills and ability of the people.  With all these in mind, I personally believe that knowledge on how to use these various social networking sites   has good impacts on the lives of the people today, but it should only limit to a certain point.  Being smart, responsible, and disciplined online user can reduce the cyber crime rates all through out the globe.

Rosa Rosal: A Life Dedicated to Charity Has Never a Dull Moment

Rosa Rosal is an award-winning Filipino actress who is known for her years of voluntary service with the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC). She was born Florence Danon in 1931 in Manila and started her film career in 1946, which continued throughout the 1950s, and was named FAMAS Best Actress in 1955 for “Sonny Boy”. Among the notable films she starred in were Lamberto Avellana’s “Anak Dalita” (1956), Tony Santos’s “Badjao” (1956), and Manuel Silos’s “Biyaya ng Lupa” (1959). She had a brief marriage in 1957 and had a child, Toni Rose Gayda, who later worked on television.[1]
Rosal became the first woman volunteer of the Philippine Red Cross at the height of her popularity and conducted her first official blood donation in 1950. Ordinary people then had to be persuaded into giving blood because of the misconception on the harmful effects of bloodletting.[2] She was later elected to the body’s Board of Governors in 1965 and has continuously promoted blood donation in the Philippines. Rosal helped start bloodletting programs inside campuses and military camps and lobbied for support in upgrading Red Cross facilities from political leaders and foreign embassies. She also initiated a Women’s Crisis Center within the PNRC, which assisted unwed and needy pregnant mothers and found homes for unwanted children. Rosal also worked out a college scholarship fund for poor but deserving students from pork barrel fund donations of members of Congress. The “Damayan” and “Kapwa Ko  Mahal Ko” public-service television programs, which she has hosted, has solicited financial and medical aid for needy patients.[3] Rosal has faced many challenges in the course of her work in the Red Cross, which include the acquisition of a refrigerated centrifuge through her appeal to then President Ferdinand Marcos and her asking for blood via the airwaves and delivery of emergency supplies to hospitals during the 1989 coup d’etat.[4]
According to Rosal, she leads a simple but meaningful life and very seldom attends social functions. She spends her weekdays on her various charity works and projects, while Saturdays are get-togethers with old friends and Sundays are exclusively for the family. She considers being asleep by 10 in the evening a luxury. Rosal is happy that more people are aware more than ever before of the activities of the Red Cross, but because of the ever increasing population, needs have also risen, and the task of raising funds has become extremely challenging. However, she makes it a point to be always well-dressed and fully made up when she goes about her work because people somehow expect her to have the bearing of a movie star at all times. When Rosal visits foreign cities, she makes it a must to locate and drop by a Red Cross office for the sharing of experiences and learning about the latest equipment in the field.[5]
Rosa Rosal was named the Ramon Magsaysay Awardee for Public Service in 1999 for her lifetime of dedicated voluntary service that has inspired her countrymen to put the needs of others ahead of their own. The Order of the Golden Heart with the rank of Grand Cross for a lifetime of public service work was also bestowed on her by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in 2006. The Ading Fernando Lifetime Achievement Award was likwise given to Rosal at the 22nd PMPC Star Awards For TV in November 2008.[6]
Philippine Red Cross officials acknowledged and celebrated the 60th anniversary of the volunteer Red Cross work of veteran actress-social worker Rosa Rosal in July 2010.  She and other volunteers have been recognized as the moving force behind charitable institutions, churches and non-government organizations because of their selfless service to those in need.[7]
Rosa Rosal is one of those remarkable human beings who see the ultimate value of a life that is other-oriented. While the world recognizes the value of individuals who strive for self-development because their examples inspire people, it also grateful for those who basically strive for the betterment of others, because through them, many lives have been set right and saved.
